Demu is a curated collection of vintage computer files. These files are primarily from the 80's & 90's with a focus on classic computer games. We maintain an ever growing archive of over 5,000 demo, freeware, and shareware games at The Internet Archive. We also keep a video archive on YouTube, and are experimenting with an image archive available through Picasa.
All of the work we do is contributed to the public domain. We encourage you to download our entire catalog of meta data and files using The Internet Archive's advanced export capability and build upon our work for your own projects. Alternatively if you would like to contribute files or physical objects into our collection we are always looking for help.
If you are the copyright holder of a classic computer games (or really anything) and would like the full version of your work to appear in our archive please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I'm also more than happy to take requests, comments, and just exchange e-mails related to great classic games!
February 6, 2014 I've been adding a lot of games from the late 90's and early 2000's lately. We are getting ever closer to 5,500 archived games already. I just started working through a bunch of Gamestar discs provided by Hallfiry on archive.org which have really great content.
Unfortunately, it looks like IGN finally pulled the plug on their fileplanet server. While the web site is still visible the download server is gone. For a lot of demos the only other available source (besides us) is now Cnet… and well, I wouldn't count Cnet for much. They slow the download speed to a crawl if the file size goes over a certain amount (60+ minutes for a 60mb file), and they try to push their adware assisted installer on everything. Some publishers have had their demos removed/hidden (Sega) and there are time periods where they stopped hosting their demos themselves and hotlinked. Eventually we will at least fill this void in gaming history again.
