| Take a step back in time and revisit your favorite DOS and Windows games. Demu is a concept I've been working on since 1998. The website name has changed numerous times over the years, but it's always focused on old computer games and other interesting digital files. | Demu is media cataloging website which I have been working on since 1998. Digital items are now hosted and primarily accessed through The Internet Archive through two accounts: |
| |
| The full archive is over 15,000 files which is available directly through our [[https://archive.org/details/classicpcgames|Classic PC Games collection]] at The Internet Archive. These items include primarily demo, freeware, shareware, and extras (cheats, documents, mods, trainers, etc.). These are often the original releases which will require intermediate to advanced knowledge to install and run in emulators if you are using a modern operating system. Where possible online play is supported so you can run them directly in your browser. | * My primary account [[https://archive.org/details/@swizzley|@swizzley]] is an administrator for the collections of [[https://archive.org/details/classicpcgames|Classic PC Games]] and [[https://archive.org/details/DEMU_Collection|The DEMU Collection]] . The Classic PC Games collection includes primarily demo, freeware, shareware, and extras (cheats, documents, mods, trainers, etc.), of DOS and vintage Windows games. Files provided are often the original releases which will require intermediate to advanced knowledge to install and run in emulators if you are using a modern operating system. Where possible online play is supported so you can run them directly in your browser. The DEMU collection is deprecated at this point due to the overwhelming progress of [[https://discmaster.textfiles.com/|DiscMaster]]. There are approximately 19,000 computer applications and other antique digital files as part of the collection but it's unlikely any additional files will be added in the future. Going forward, the majority of new additions are likely to be disk images made using Greaseweazle. |
| |
| We also have a collection of computer applications and other antique digital files [19,000+] available in the [[https://archive.org/details/DEMU_Collection|The DEMU Collection]] also at The Internet Archive. This collection differs from Classic PC Games, as it is primarily a quick automated process to make old archives available with limited meta data. Generally I try to provide a correct title and some type of description. Online play is rarely available. | * My secondary account [[https://archive.org/details/@swizzley_scans|@swizzley_scans]] is primarily where scanned materials will be uploaded. This may include vintage, books, magazines, computer or video game manuals. The genre of items may vary depending on what can be located (at an affordable price) which has not yet been preserved. Currently the bulk of my attention is on pulp magazines. |
| |
| Feel free to [[swizzle@demu.org|contact me]] with any comments, questions, or suggestions. | If you have materials you would like to see added to The Internet Archive but don't have the capability to do so yourself feel free to reach out to me. I may be able to offer non-destructive or destructive (spine cutting) scanning, dumping of disks, ripping of discs, and other community archival services. Feel free to [[swizzle@demu.org|contact me]] with any comments, questions, or suggestions. |
